:: wonderfully wonderful | washington dc family portrait photographer ::

I just love these two. They have been part of our family for almost 5 years. M has been O's friend since they were babies, and Mom and I have been through some interesting motherhood experiences together :-)

Here's to you - wonderfully wonderful and happily happy M + E!

:: performance art | american indian museum washington dc ::

If you have not visited the National Museum of American Indians, please go. As an architect, I love the thoughtfully designed details and native motifs inside and out. As a photographer, I love how beautifully diffused light bounces off the stone pavers. As for my children? They love running and chasing each other around the expansive forecourt and standing under the rainbows refracted by glass prisms inside the museum.

Don't they look like they are somehow trying to "feel" the colors with their bodies??? Or maybe avant garde little-people mime performers???

Look what one of my little clients did for me! Isn't she the best?! All this without any prompting from Mom! M has been my eldest daughter's friend since she was 4-months-old. I'm so happy to have been able to capture some family moments for her and her family. Previews coming up soon!

:: 3 generations | washington dc family photographer ::

As a child, I felt so lucky to have all four of my grandparents around me while growing up. I looked forward to cozy weekends at Puo's and lazy summers at Ah Ma's. Now that I have children of my own, I wish my grandparents are still alive to see how these little ones are so much like them in so many ways.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of photographing three generations of a close family - The Grand Dame, the Adventurous Mom, the Energetic Older Sister and the Mellow Younger Brother. Thank you G, M, A + L for letting me capture priceless family moments for you!

Little brother does EVERYTHING big sister does - how sweet is that?!

One of my very favorite moments - Mom's earring came loose and A tried to help mom put it back in.

:: loss and healing| northern virginia family portrait photographer ::

One of the mom models with whom I worked during the workshop weekend, is fellow photographer, Beryl Young. After losing her first child during late pregnancy, she sought refuge and healing behind the camera lens. In turn, she has combined her own experience of healing and her love of photography into a series of workshops to help other mothers who are coping with a similar loss. For more details, please visit her website. Here are some more shots of Beryl with her beautiful family:

:: inspired | washington dc me ra koh workshop ::

This past weekend, I - along with 24 extraordinary women - attended a Me Ra Koh photography workshop. It wasn't just about shutter speed, F stop and film speed; it was also about the art and soul of photography and doing what you love - in spite of whatever obstacles we may encounter in our daily lives. My sincerest thanks to my fellow attendees, Me Ra K. and Brian T. - you have inspired me to do better and to enjoy every moment of everyday. I truly loved sharing belly laughs with you all :-)

Here are some shots from the workshop - big thanks to our model families...we couldn't have done it without you!

:: happy birthday | washington dc family portrait photographer ::

As a birthday present to her husband, my latest client asked me to photograph her three GORGEOUS daughters, K, E and little S. Not only were they a joy to work with, these girls have the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen! Each girl has a distinct personality, yet they get along perfectly and love each other unconditionally.  What's more, mom was fabulous at keeping everyone playful and focused (thank you, C!). Thank you V Family for a fantastic session and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mr. V!

:: woolly hats + the one-eyed monster | washington dc portrait photographer ::

FINALLY...sparkling sunshine is back after what felt like weeks of dreary, spitting rain. With temps in the 50s, O + C2 decided they wanted to break-in their new woolly hats. C1, on the other hand, chased them around the block as the "One-Eyed Monster" (ha! the irony cracks me up!) in his Monster Republic hoody. Moooooooore sparkling sunshine, please!
