Mother Nature seemed a little indecisive over the last two weeks. Last week it was so cold that the kids tried freezing their breaths on the car windows. Then it got so warm that we thought Spring had arrived. Today, we are back to frigid winter again. No wonder these little flowers had no idea what season it is...

Nothing says innocence like a pair of 4-year-old pigtails...maybe flying 4-year-old pigtails???

I am intrigued by this little old building nestled between two large thoroughfares in Rock Creek Park. Would be a great location for Spring photo session...

Till this day, I still remember drilling Louis Sullivan's "Form Follows Function" into the heads of my college junior architecture school students. The conviction and force of Master Louie's famous words still send chills up and down my spine. Real genius.

The real scenery is pretty terrific, but a little enhancement never hurt anybody :-)

Little boy, when you speak
I can’t help but kiss your cheeks
I love the way you grab my hands
And tell me all about your plans

Rocket high, comets fly
You and I could take a ride
And fly away to Neverland
And give our best to Peter Pan

When you reach for the stars
Don’t forget who you are
And please don’t turn around and grow up way too fast
See the sand in my grasp
From the first to the last
Every grain becomes a memory of the past
Oh, life’s an hourglass
Life’s an hourglass

Partial lyrics from "Hourglass" by Mindy Gledhill

Fifty-five degrees of sunshiny goodness in the middle of January...couldn't get any better than this...

As my best friend would say with disdain: "Uggs are so last decade!" Well, unbeknownst to me, Santa brought the girls some bright fuchsia Uggs (with bright fuchsia satin bows) for Christmas. Needless to say, they are in love with them...who cares what Uncle M might say about this...

:: Project Life 01.18.13 | {news} ::

With all the inaugural news buzz around town, I thought I'd give you a little self-promoting news after our yearly wellness checkups at the peds. I'm happy to report, there was not one tear...some whimpers, but no tears. Four shots, three blood draws, three pee-in-the-cup, three hearing tests, three vision tests later...all three children haven been declared healthy and apparently quite TALL.

A glimpse into my *orange* & white workspace. The very color-simpatico "Green Eggs and Ham" landed on my desk last night because someone has a book report to do.

:: Project Life 01.16.13 | {sign of winter} ::

Winter is baaack! Dark grey sky with a side of cold, spitty rain, as if mocking us for the Spring-like weather from last week. Regardless, here's a shot of a more agreeable winter day.

:: Project Life 01.15.13 | {confusing} ::

It's just wrong when the instructions for installing an accessory is more confusing then the computer itself. But I do like the fact that it is nicely illustrated on vellum paper...

:: Project Life 01.13.13 | {forgotten} ::

This post is not so much about forgetting, but remembering -- remembering to take a deep breath once in a while & remembering what makes you happy & content. There is a beautiful little country store at the foot of the mountain where B & I were married. We take the children there every Fall to pick our perfect pumpkins -- pumpkins from all over the world that have been hand-picked, thoroughly bathed & meticulously displayed by the owner of the shop. Maybe I'll open a shop like this one day.

My kids' favorite board game. Have you already guessed what it is?

:: Project Life 01.09.13 | {in a drawer} ::

For today's photo-a-day, I tried to do something different. Instead of taking a pic of what is inside a drawer, I took a pic from inside a drawer, looking out at the world. This is the hat/glove/scarf drawer next to the mud-room area of our front door. O's rainbow riding gloves are in the foreground.

:: Project Life 01.08.13 | {front door} ::

I had the perfect door in mind for today's Project Life 365 photo, but I couldn't make it there in time. So, I cheated a bit and dug up an image from our family trip to NYC last summer. This image was taken from the very yellow main floor lobby escalator, looking down towards the front door of the Hudson Hotel. I remember I almost dropped my camera because O caught me off guard with this rapture pose -- she was so excited about what was awaiting her beyond those front doors.

I took the kids to the Hirshhorn Museum today for Ai Wei Wei's "According to What?" Fantastic, thoughful, moving artwork. Really worth seeing.

We then stumbled upon Barbara Kruger's "Belief+Doubt." The kids saw it as an impromptu stage & decided to perform for the nervous, grouchy security guards. Here're C+C performing as Fred + Ginger:

My kids are still on holiday this week, so today I bamboozled them into "helping me" at the car wash while I took a break from editing sessions & fulfilling orders. I really do love a clean car :-)

Never put off till tomorrow, what you can do today. ~ Thomas Jefferson

As we embark on a brand new year, I am reminded by this quote that without action, all of the pretty ideas and goals inside my head will not have a chance to blossom and take flight. So to jump start my push forward one day at a time, I've joined the Project Life 365 photo-a-day challenge.

I wish everyone a healthy, happy, peaceful 2013!!!
